Beyond the Glorious GardenJuly 29 - 31 and August 5 - 7, 2011 International celebrity & author T.D. Ballinger has died and his funeral will be held in Nashville. Joe Bentley, retired plumber from Bowling Green, tells his granddaughter Katie that he “rode the rails” with Ballinger during the Great Depression and wants to attend the funeral. Since Joe suffers from the onset of Alzheimer’s, Katie is dubious but takes him, nevertheless. More party than funeral, the event draws a bizarre collection of people: a Hollywood producer facing bankruptcy, two unemployed actors desperate for work; a man dressed as Carmen Miranda; Ballinger’s spiritual guru and author of Beyond the Glorious Garden; Beatrice, an elderly woman who claims to have been Ballinger’s secret lover; & Sketch Halsey, an unsuccessful screenwriter eager to write a screenplay about Ballinger’s illicit love affair. After much ado among the players, Joe & Beatrice disappear, and a frantic search leads to an unlikely climax. Written by local playwright, Don Johnson, the show is both heartwarming & funny—an absolute gem!
